M9400B Makita MT Belt Sander issue

Hello there!

I’m a newbie 🙂

I bought a M9400B Makita MT Belt Sander recently and every time I want to use it, the sanding belt slides to the right of the holder and has already started scoring the metal body, doing a small notch into the metal. I am following the instructions in the manual: I insert the sanding belt after unlocking the lever, then close it and use the knob to adjust the belt’s trajectory. But as soon as I start the machine, the belt immediately slides to the right and starts cutting into the metal again.

Does anyone know what my problem could be? I paid quite a high price for the tool and I really need to use it…

Thank you and have a great day!

I would return it and grab a new one.  It’s a tracking issue but the tracking dial should fix that.  I take it your using the correct sanding belt paper?   Before you return it, you can try another brand, maybe the brand you have isn’t truly the correct size if it’s an off brand.  But the only time I have heard of this problem is the tool.  Either the tracking dial isn’t working properly or something is up with the rollers

Common problems with the Makita M9400B belt sander include poor sanding performance (caused by worn carbon plates, worn CFMOTO drive belt, or a damaged drive roller), motor overheating or stalling (from forcing the tool or failing dust collection), and belt slipping off (due to improper tension, worn parts, or misaligned tracking). To troubleshoot, make sure the belt is pointing in the right direction, turn the tracking knob, check and remove any dust accumulation, look for wear or damage on the belt, and make sure the tension lever’s spring is operating properly.
