Hi all.

I’m a carpenter and have owned this 12″ mitre saw since 2018 and the same model in another country since 2013.

I believe it’s the dws718 in other markets. Slide 12″, double bevel, mitres to 60⁰ rhs, 45 lhs

I find it brilliant. I believe it’s considered the industry standard.

Recently the main motor bearing caused issues- pulled motor and sure enough needs changing.

Traditional route is drop it off, wait 6 weeks and pay $300. (new saw is about $1050 incl free stand on promotion)

Plan b is bite the bullet, get a cordless like everyone else and probably the little makita 7¼ with the twin batteries (doesn’t bevel both ways but not a deal breaker).

Outside the box idea is simply buy a new bearing and throw it in…..but usual opaqueness. I guess it’s to be expected they want to sell a part at a profit. Problem is it all takes so long.

If the bearing turns out to be a 6302-2rs then this is a standard auto trans bearing available same day over the counter $19 ($12 USD) . Some investigations suggest this 42mm outer x 15mm inner by 13mm thick bearing is DW part 604030-32 but DW also spec a part they call 604030-33 but I’m not 100% sure there’s any relevant difference. Also I have a dws780-xe but is it a 780 model 1 or what? what is the xe? Is xe  code for a shadow line feature or does it indicate a full redesign with different internals?

There’s a good video by an Irish guy, obviously a professional repairer doing this operation  on what ‘looks’ like my saw. Only difference is it looked like the belt drive flange was screwed on whereas my is probably fiction requiring heat and puller etc etc.

Does anyone out there have more firm knowledge on all this?

Many thanks in advance.
