I had the Dewalt DW735 which is the 15 Amp planner. I never had any issues with the motor and had it for a long time. Now I didn’t use it everyday, probably only used it about 100 times in those years. I really only ran either Oak, Purple heart wood, which both are hardwoods. I also ran a lot of pine through it also.
I found that I could not take a lot of at once. If I was running pine through it, I could take of 1/16″ at most. I believe the manual said I could take of an 1/8″ in the aggressive mode but the circuit breaker would always pop. If it was oak or other hard wood, the most I could take of was 1/32″ per pass. If I tried to take of 1/16″, it would pop the breaker most of the time.
Not sure which Dewalt you have but I would think there is a breaker on the machine instead of burning out the motor twice, weird.
I have the 734 and no issues with it burning out either. Not the highest quality of cut but nothing a little sanding can’t fix for my application. Planers do seem to take a lot of juice. Very high starting amps. My Ego Nexus wont even run mine. I need a proper wall outlet to run the planer.
Grizzly just came out with a new model that kinda sorta competes with the 735 DeWALT and the comparable Oliver.
Eucalyptus is really hard, it can kill an engine too fast. If I were you, I would look on the side of beefier industrial models or a cast iron roller planer.
