Can the Honda WX15 be used in Construction situations?

I just got a new Honda WX15 gas-powered water pump!

But… Can it be used for situations in construction? Let’s take for example: an old (worn down) water main I was trying to expose ruptured and is filling the trench with water. Another situation: I was digging a trench to install a new set of pipes or cables, but then it starts to rain. That rain is gradually filling the hole I’m digging with water. So I have to pump out that rainwater to resume working on the utility servicing.

But here’s the main obstacle: clumps of clay, dirt, small pebbles, and rocks entering the hose as the pump sucks out the water. Is the Honda WX15 designed for this type of job and if so, how do I avoid rocks, pebbles, and clumps of clay and dirt blocking the hoses or main pump?
