Welding Wood

I don’t see that being practical for years to come but that is very cool.

Or… Use glue

JavierMember since Aug 2013

If the bond has the same properties as a solid piece it would be better than glue, think of metal welding, you don’t glue two pieces of metal. Imaging if your car frame was glued together, it would fall apart just going over a speedbump or dip.

Just imagine the possibilities in woodworking and fine furniture without the need for fasteners

RedSionnachMember since Aug 2013

I have a hunch it’s activating the lignin in the wood, which would act like a glue. Similar to when they extrude saw dust into pellets, it’s the lignin that holds the saw dust together. I doubt the joint would hold very well. If it did it would be good for veneers, or something like butcher block tabletops.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

I have been able to do this with my fingers. Just need a little super glue. 🙂

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I have a feeling this is another invention like DOHC engines. You know, they make the the whole process harder and more expensive than it needs to be.

See guys. That’s what happens when science gets involved! Ahhh Hah! I’ve created the perfect bond! Next thing….blam-o! We have..The Fly, only with wood….or Frankenwood! Or Jurassic Wood (actually I create that every morning – never mind wrong forum!)

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

Easy Chris, keep it pg.

I don’t think Festool makes a tool for that or do they?

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Hahahaha don’t worry Nick you’ll understand when you get older! I got to talk to them crazy Germans Regopit!

KatoMember since Jan 2014

All I keep thinking is to go out in the garage and light a piece of wood on fire with my propane torch and smash it to another piece in my vise, see if I can “weld” the two pieces together. Sadly, science only ever makes me want to do stupid stuff to see if it’ll work. No testing, no science involved, no logic, just stupid human doing stupid thing. Who knows, if I don’t burn the house down I might be on to something.

As for keeping it PG…how the heck can a forum based on tools be PG?? You know it’s just gonna be fat old bald guys sitting in recliners with beers in their hands talking about tools and stuff. There’s gonna be swearing and burping and farting and stuff. We’re guys for Pete’s sake, this is what we do. Now, where the hell did I put those Slim Jims and pounds of bacon…

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Whoa whoa whoa Kato!  Who you callin’ bald?!?!?!?!

RedSionnachMember since Aug 2013

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Even with my deep love and admiration for Proto tools I haven’t broke out any window stickers. You must have it bad!

RedSionnachMember since Aug 2013

Just wait for the Festool tat on his ass! Then you’ll know he’s a lost cause. 🙂

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Sissy. A true fan would have gotten it his “tool” 😆

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Hahahahaha wow. That hurts just thinking about it. I arrested this chick one time and I asked her is she had any tattoos when I was booking her. She was real nice Rochester girl. 35….smokes….A LOT…probably a 40d (mostly fat) you know the kind of girl you want to marry and take home to meet your parents. I ask her and she say “yeah I’ve got a picture of a mouse on my groin…SEE???? Oops the “kitty” must’ve ate it. Oh yeah…classy girl that one.

RedSionnachMember since Aug 2013

Dude I fell for that one hard. Was out shootin pool and drinkin beers after work one night, this nice looking (after a few drinks) gal walks up. She tells me about her mouse tat on her hip. “Nope don’t see it.” says I. “Oh it’s a little lower. Look closer,” she says as she scoots her pants down a bit more. So i get my face closer. This happens 5-6 times. We were damn near lips to lips by the time she hit me with the punch line. At least she was clean.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

“Lips to lips” 😆 😆

DR99Member since Nov 2012

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

Next thing you know he will have his truck painted in the festool colors and have giant decals on the side.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

With a license plate that says “Snobn”

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Nope. We true Northerns have Live Free or Die on our plates

#TeeMember since Apr 2014

this would be great for veneering/table tops/butcher blocks and without the use of glue on those items my saw blades would love me.
