Makita 40v drop saw – grip dial not tightening or loosening?

Hi all,

 

I recently purchased a makita 40v drop saw and tried to change the angle to a 45 degree cut, once on the 45 angle I went to tighten the grip dial and it just spins?? 
 

any help would be much appreciated!
