So did you guys see the door Eric made in one of the latest videos (review of the Porter Cable single speed router). Great work he did. Nice Craftsman style door. Anybody else make something like that? Anybody have any tips? I wonder if he used tongue and groove or biscuit joints.

That door looked nice. I would love to make my own kitchen cabinets like Eric mentioned there is something about making it yourself over buying it made it the store. Plus what you make is going to generally be of a higher quality than most things now.

Eric’s done a lot of nice work. The bar he made awhile back was pretty nice too.

Eric, you do some good work, you need to show us how the progress of your man cave is coming, I remember in the Ryobi fan video, where you had a screwup in the mud in the bathroom, have you finished that?

I have been making a side table out of cedar at my old p.e. coach and client and neighbor’s dad’s house, where he has a wood shop ina four car garage!!!! He has all the right tools that I can’t afford, table saw drill press, drum sanders joiner planer, anyway I finally went over and finished it today, I just have to apply the poly urathene and it will be all done, wait till you see it!

My guess would be he used the kreg jig….. That thing is useful for almost every project!

Dr, I agree there is something about making it yourself . I tried making my own cabinet doors but t didn’t get it precise enough.

His bar was really good. That people heart looked cool.

Chase that is cool you made a side table. Cedar is going to look sweet. Looking forward to seeing the picture.

I have the kreg jig and it’s great! I think it make a stronger bond than my biscuit joiner. When used with glue.

My wife has placed an order for a coffee table, a sofa back table, 2 end tables, and a dining room table. Looks like Conductor Jr. and I will be busy. I’ve got 2-3 weeks until close and then I have 2 bathrooms to remodel (1 includes a corner Jacuzzi tub install), and an entire repaint of the whole house (including all 4 entry doors). I’m replacing every light fixture, faucet, and piece of door hardware in the house, and God only knows what else. 2 of the 3 bathrooms are getting tiled, and the kitchen, man that’s going to be a job. We’re laying almost 300 sq. ft. of tile, new dishwasher, double oven, fridge, and counter tops, and because the previous owner decided to paint the kitchen cabinets, I have to strip and refinish them 🙁

Once all that is done, I get to start putting together my shop. The master bath and kitchen will obviously be the biggest jobs. I figure with a little help from my dad and father in-law I might pull it off in 3 weeks.

I will start a project thread to keep everyone up to date on my progress. Probably do separate threads for the bigger portions.

WOW Conductor!!! That’s a huge amount of work. That’s great! Can’t wait to see the threads!. That is if you have any free time at all. 🙂

I always make time for you guys 🙂 I’m going to take a weeks vacation to get everything going. After that I’ll have about 5 hours every evening to work on it. If I get enough help I should be able to pull it off in 3 weeks.

How old is Conductor JR, and I would make sure to tell your wife that you may not have the right tool for the job(even thou you probably do) so you can get more tools haha!

Conductor Jr. is 4.

Please Chase, you think you’re talking to an armature here? Just today I extorted $150 in Kreg Jig stuff, a doweling kit, and a nice portable stand for my table saw. That’s just the first trip. I’m sure to have at least 10 more trips 😆

Eric – TIAMember since Jan 2010

Thanks for the kind words.  I did finish the bathroom project, well all most.  I still have to hang the cabinet doors.  They have been sitting in my garage.  Conductor that’s a lot of work.  Wish I had more time in the day, but I guess that is with everyone.

After calculating everything today, the Kitchen floor will be 320 sq ft of tile. She decided today she wants a tile countertop, so there’s another 96 sq ft. The master bath is 124 sq. ft. plus whatever I end up using on the tub enclosure. The other 2 baths are around 90 sq. ft. each and I’m guessing the mud room is about 100 sq ft. Long story short, I’ve got a shade over 800 sq. ft to lay total. What a nightmare! Luckily my father in-law builds houses for a living and is really good with tile.

I got a steal on the tile. We found a design we really liked on clearance at Lowe’s for 66 cents a sq ft.

I bought 140 sq. ft. To do my moms kitchen for her so at this moment there is about 1000 sq. ft. of tile in the bed of my truck. Loading it was quite a chore in its own rite.

I didn’t think 1000 sq. ft. for under $700 was too bad. A cheap laminate countertop alone was gonna be $2,000.

Did you use your Bosch router table to make the rails and stiles? Any tips you may have for making cabinet doors? Your right about time. Never enough.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

That is a very good price for 1000 sq ft. that is going to be some back breaking work! I’m about to gut and remodel our bathroom. Floor, new tile, new sink vanity, medicine cabinet, toilet, tub, etc. Everything.

I remodeled my old house over the course of 2 1/2 years. Sold it about a month after I got it done 🙁

I hate doing tile. I don’t mind painting, electrical, plumbing, or framing, but tile and drywall suck.

Can we look forward to a project thread?

Did the value of your house go up?

I really need to invest in a kreg jig! They are so useful!

Some. We had kinda “overbuilt the neighborhood”, so we didnt get as much return as we’d have liked, but we did see some increase.
