Nextec 12 volt batteries

I’ve got four of the Nextec tools (3/8″ drill, right angle impact driver, sander and oscillating tool).  All the batteries are about a year old and a couple of them have started to not want to work in the drill.  They show a solid green light when in the charger, but in the drill (also the sander) they won’t work.  Anybody have any similar problems with them?  Any suggested remedies?

The only thing I can think of if the battery isn’t showing an error on the charger is that either the battery does have a fault and the charger is not noticing the problem,  or there is an issue with the battery power contacts and the tool power contacts and they are not connecting thus giving no power. Dang sears is really cheap with the warranty stuff now 1 year parts 90 days labor that’s pretty crappy I think ryobi does atleast 3 years on their tools.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Yeah one year….that sucks i think kobalt is 3 years also..i agree with Dr99, very well could be the probes on the tool…

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

If you take them to Sears and raise hell they’ll probably swap them out.

Yea there is a fine line on raising hell you gotta be an asshole but you don’t want to be too big of one its gotta be like a silent rage.

Haha I hate when I go to return something and they sit and inspect it for 5 minutes…

I get it on high dollar items, but sometimes they are just being stupid trying to flag someone from another department too look it over. The Home Depot is the worst for me they are either checking every single item number and comparing or they take it no problem it all depends on who’s working at that time.

As the supervisor of Tools and Hardware………I have had a drill that was returned with bricks inside of it, multiple very old/heavily used tools returned in new boxes, and someone who filled a Milwaukee Fuel hardcase with SAND…..YES I SAID SAND!

A few times at the clearance table I know they put out returns and some of the tools had some seriously hard wear or rust on them plus missing parts I would never pay what they were asking, or why they would even bother trying to sell it it was fit for the trash. I wonder how that happens at the return desk why any power tool box isn’t opened to check if they are not full of sand or anything it wasn’t supposed to be. Some people could make the packaging look factory sealed, and if i buy it and find out it was full of bricks is the manager going to believe me.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

Wow.  Filling it with sand.  A lot of nerve. I have never had a problem returning stuff to Home Depot.

i guess like DR99 said depends on who is working at the time.

I was wondering Joe M if your store has started to stock M12 Fuel tools yet the store by me has sold all the old m12 kits and is now trying to get rid of the bare tools. The whole M12 display looked horrible though is their different reps for Ryobi verses Milwaukee tools? The Ryobi display is always looking nice and maintained.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

People piss me off. Shady people ruin good return policies for the rest of us.

The one with Bricks the Customer said “You guys past the test!” The guy with sand just swiftly walked out of the building.

NO I HAVE NOT gotten the M12 Fuels. This is a very sore subject for me as I probably follow the tool industry more than anyone in my district in terms of Hardware Supervisors, and I was excited about possibly getting them. However my store was outside of the top 1000 selling Milwaukee stores, so I did not get M12 Fuel tools. Only 3 stores in my district got them and for most it was just the impact driver. But I have had a lot of stuff go to clearance, which makes me think there will be a new product push to all stores with the Fuel line in both M18 and M12.

I teach my TTI(Milwaukee, Ridgid, and Ryobi) rep about new products. Sadly, they decide that is better to hire good looking females than it is to hire someone who can be a valuable source of information. Contrastingly I used to have a DeWalt rep who taught me a lot and had a Makita rep who was awesome at keeping me informed. Finally DR99, the Ryobi and Milwaukee Endcaps are “maintained” and “set” by TTI. The M12 endcap is one that I have switched around to make it look better, because when TTI does it looks very empty and not attractive at all.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Yea the M12 endcap an the store I go to the most has missing display tools and spots on the shelves it looks like hell. I just wondered if TTI used the same reps for all the brands which you confirmed. Yea it takes a long time for new tools to make into most of the stores compared to how quick it pops up on the Home Depot webpage.

The fucking display batteries are always dead. I have no idea why they don’t use an AC adapter on display tools. I thought it was a fantastic idea and even discussed filing for a patent on it. Then I realized someone beat me to it 🙁

A few tool lines back in the low power low run time nicad days did have a corded ac adapter to run a cordless tool, but from what I remember they were expensive and not popular to buy. I will be honest I’m surprised they let people test drills with actual drill bits you figure legal would be all over that with the liability of some kid drilling another kids hand or something. People let their kids run wild at home depot.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I wondered the same thing about the bit equipped demos. I have noticed that they are almost always up front by the registers where there are always employees in sight.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

You both have very good points Conductor and DR99. We all want to be able to test out the tools before we buy. That’s probably why we like to watch Eric and Dan. Now we see little screens with infomercials on some tool displays. That’s also great your thinking about inventions and patents Conductor.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

You guys remember the person not to long ago that went into a home depot and cut off his arms. It is ALL about liability and risk.

I didn’t hear about that one

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

…….damn. I can honestly say I’ve never had the desire to saw my arms off.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

And it is sooooooo damned hard to carry that gear you bought home afterwards 🙂

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

O.K I get that it is possible to cut ONE arm off ( If you are enough of a nutcase) but how do you manage the second one? surely you have nothing to hold the saw with?

This guy was mad as a hatter but it still seems impossible to cut off both arms without help using hand saws.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

At my home depot they have a 2x strapped to a shelf, then they have all the different impacts you can buy with bits in them, they have a box of 2in screws sitting there but not one battery is charged…..then we get to Milwaukee….there hand tools are scattered all over the store haha there aviation snips are right next to the m12 impact, it makes no sense…and about the kid thing, im waiting on one of them to get hurt when they are playing with the chainsaws which of course are not running, but can do some damage…

I worked 25 years for a company (Ridgid) that made tools for both Sears and HD and know for a fact that the warranty is kicked back to the manufacturer. The only thing they may do now is the paperwork.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Good info Nick. I was always curious about that. I’m guessing the OEM’s offer different warranty packages to the rebranders?

Lowes will no longer my returns without a receipt. I know this sends obvious if I lose my receipt but in most cases I don’t mind store credit as I will be putting the money back in the store by buying something. They said my id had been banned, supposedly too many returns on file but I told them I usually buy extra items for the job and return what doesn’t get used. It’s better to have extra than to not have enough and constantly make trips to the store. Each trip wastes valuable work time. I often lose receipts and hd had no problem with me returning brand new items without a receipt, ofcourse they pay in store credit but I’m fine with that. Lowes excuse for banning me from returning items without an id was because they said people abuse the system by stealing items and then returning them for store credit. Now I’m forced to use that my Lowes card just in case I lose my receipt.
Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Last week I returned a couple bags of grout and some other misc. items left over at HD. They got shitty and treated me like a criminal. They asked several questions about the items and how many times I’d returned items without a receipt. They gave me the store credit of $84, but the whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

JavierMember since Aug 2013

That’s how I feel but towards Lowes. Atleast they gave you store credit. All I got was the “sorry sir but there’s nothing we can do” luckily I found the receipt and got my cash for the returns.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

For me it all depends on who’s working the register there was one woman at Lowes who was pretty tough on returns the others were really nice, The one HD by me was pretty crappy also but I hardly need to go to that store.

Nick WilliamsMember since Aug 2012

It really depends on the clout the store has with the supplier. Ridgid certainly could walk from HD but Emerson who owns Ridgid calls the shots.
