20v?!?! Where’s the 40v?
It’s seem to be a 2x20V :
Can fit two FVs in there.
Is that a 20″, was hoping for a 21″. It seems a little small, also very non existing looking.
A 60V mower would be just willy-waving. If what you’re cutting needs 60V, you shouldn’t be using a mower.
Given Dewalt’s entire OPE range to date has both 20V and 40V versions, I’d lay money that a 40V model is not far behind this.
But a 2x 20V model is just what I’m after. I’m assuming the quoted 1/4 acre runtime is for 2x 5Ah. Stick a couple of big FVs in there and I guess the runtime would (broadly) scale up accordingly.
Think we’ll ever see a rider mower powered by FV? Similar to the Ego that’s currently on the market?
Gotta learn more about it….glad they made one..just not eye catching
They actually have a FV chainsaw/trimmer/blower so they have all three platforms in OPE.
You could say atleast they have a mower but then you wonder why 20vx2 first and not 40v or 60v
Possibly because homeowners outnumber landscapers 100,000:1 ??
60V tools are a big hit but overkill for majority of homeowners who’ve already bought into 20V
40V is for the professional landscaper/maintenance guy
20V is where the mass market is.
It will be a while before the pro landscaper even gives a glance towards battery power tools. I recently saw a video of a Makita chainsaw with two 18v batteries cutting a 6×6 and it was laughable.
When I owned a tree svc I used to send all my saws out to be ported to get more power out of them, even the 088.
Man I love my team yellow but then again I love my Ego mower can wait to see some reviews on it
Take a lot to get me outta ego for lawn care….but that mower won’t do it…I do like my 20v ope stuff …..but ego rocks
This one seemed like a miss to me. It does have good looks though. I would miss using a side chute.
Can anyone tell me how many square meters a quarter acre is ? 😀
@kornomaniac about 1000 sq meters
Thanks ! Nice !
Some UK sites indicating a stock date of March 9th for the DCMW564:
Some nice shots of the European (18V XR branded) version on Tooled-Up
£360 (US$488) for the bare tool though! Ouch!
There is also a version that uses the 40v battery platform.
This looks great. I hope it works well because it would be handy to have.
Steel decks on cordless mowers are increasingly rare. To have a steel deck on both models is nice.
I would buy one but I have fake grass

An Email just popped into my inbox, Acme has listed the 2 X 20 volt mower for $ 399:

If my old gas powered mower ever dies, this might get a serious look, no engine to maintain, it takes the same batteries I already have. Seems like it is a little more expensive than a basic gas powered mower, but less than most higher quality mowers.

Thats not a bad price at all. I think my gas push mower was around the same price. It does have powered rear wheels with Toro’s personal pace system which this doesn’t have.
Can’t wait to see the TIA review on this one.
I would buy this if it was self propelled. Dewalt should do a 22″ self propelled 120v. I know I would buy it. I’m sick of cleaning the carburetor and stinking like gas 1-2 times a year with the Husqvarna I have.
I have the Ego self propelled model the battery mowers are so much lighter you don’t really notice it like an old heavy gas model. If you have a bigger yard with hills maybe you still want a self propelled model. Just my experience.
My yard is all hills, especially the front. I wouldn’t do it without being self propelled. If my mower completely died I would get an ego self propelled but would prefer DeWalt to come out with something better so I can use my flexvolt batteries. I only have 7 9.0 and 6 6.0’s
Thanks for the video @D W…..awesome
So, I just preordered mine from Acme. They had a coupon code going on, which made the price very appealing. I really wish the release date would get firmed up a bit. Some say April, some say May. I’ve got a new house and don’t own a mower yet, so i don’t want to get caught too late into the season.
I’m also curious to why they don’t include (2) of the 6ah 20v batteries. Doesn’t bother me too bad since i own some flexvolt batteries though.
I’m also a little bummed about it being a 20” and not a 21” or 22”, but not a deal breaker. Now I’ve just got to find a good mulching blade for it.
I just went ahead and ordered mine from Acme also. I have a 15 year old self propelled Toro that still works pretty well so I should be ok if it gets delayed a bit. It is my last gas device. I was hoping for a 22″ or self propelled also but hopefully at least that means the mower will never bog down since all power can be diverted to cutting instead of propelling it.
You mention, needing to find a good mulching blade. Have you already heard or seen that the blade it comes with is not sufficient for that?
I just received shipping and tracking info from Acme last night for the 2x20v mower. Says I should have it Monday, so that is awesome news. Surprising there hasn’t been much press or previews floating around.
Sweet, I just checked and got mine too. It should be here next Tuesday for me. I am excited.
Mine came in. Unfortunately is was raining all day so I was not able to really try it. It seems fairly solid but not sure about the key. It does not always go on easily and worry it could break over time. I also wonder about the padding/grip material at the top of the handle bars. Between the dirt and sweat I see that as potentially wearing down and falling apart quickly.
But the most important part about how it cuts/bags/mulches will have to wait until this weekend.

Is it the same as the 20V string trimmer handle? It’s made of similar stuff to those stress balls. I’m just waiting for mine to fall apart. It should have been hard rubber.
DeWalt has not sent any samples to anybody. I was not given a affirmative yes on getting a sample myself. I checked out the 40-volt version my local Lowe’s store had in stock. I was not overly impressed with the build quality. The handle is a pain to put up and down.scottydoesnt wrote:

It does look to be the material as the string trimmer. With that maybe it will hold up a little better than I thought. I have had the string trimmer for 2 years now and so far so good. I am just a home owner though so only use it once a week.
SO it cut and bagged fairly well on the first cut. The cut was clean. The two batteries it came with though did not make it through the whole yard. I have a quarter acre plot and it only made it about 75% of the way through.I think I getting a pair of the 9AH Flexvolt batteries will definitely help. I was bagging, not mulching. I don’t know if that takes more energy pushing the grass into the bag or not but it was a little to tall to mulch. Next week I will try mulching instead.

I find mulching to put the most strain on a mower so if I were to guess you would get less runtime by mulching. Could wait for the 12 ah batteries to come out then maybe the 9 ah will be priced lower?
Scotty, wondering what your thoughts on your unit were? I am happy with the performance of the unit but still not with the batteries. I mulched my yard using two 9ah Flexvolt batteries and was able to complete the yard. I did have about 5 strips that it would not make it through as it was just to tall and kept bogging down. I had to put on fresh batteries for that. I just don’t by that the two included 5ah batteries would be able to do 1/4 acre unless on it is not actually cutting anything and just running while you go over the lawn. I think they should of included those to begin with. It will take longer to recoup the value of no gas with the added price. But the convenience of no gas is nice.
@BigTuras do you notice any power increase by using the flex 9’s over the 5.0’s? I’m sure the runtime is close to double?
On normal grass I did not. When trying to go through the tall grass I did notice a little less bogging down. It did give me a good amount more run time. Not quite double but sooooo much more.

Are you sure? I am not familiar with US units, but I thought one acre should be somewhere in the 4000-4100 m2 range?

And the Dewalt mower is rated for 1/4 acre or so off the 2 5.0s it comes with, so about 1000 sq m.
Indeed, sorry guys, just realized I misread the technical data 🙁
My lawn is 1/40th of an acre so I think a pair of FlexVolt 3.0/9.0s hits the spot lol.
This look cool. I apologize for asking, as I am sure that someone else already has…. but why wouldn’t they make this a 60v? I get that you can use the batteries, but in terms of optimal power wouldn’t that be the way to go?

You can get the same power out of 20v Max as 60v Max if you build it right, and 20v Max casts a wider net with the homeowner demographic.
