Decided to buy the impact and drill12v kit from Lowe’s (see that deal thread for my post)
I had read the impact is compact, and I wanted to see how it performed and felt and fit in my toolbox. Also I don’t have a 12v drill for small quick holes or drilling whatever I need.
But I have to return the set??
The Bosch impact is more bulky than my m12 impact and it’s a big disadvantage when I can’t fit it as well in my every day toolbox.
This picture really outlines my problem with the Bosch, the housing is much larger in diameter and really loses its appeal because of that. If I had these or similar Bosch 12v tools, I would have kept them no problem, I got this kit for a good deal at $129 and wouldn’t hesitate to tell anyone else to buy it too.

. Suffice to say I’ll be sticking with my Milwaukee for the foreseeable future.
Keep in mind my impact is the non fuel version, model 2450, which I believe is not available anymore. I was really hoping the Bosch would be much smaller and really solidify my decision, but unfortunately, it just didn’t have enough going for it to sway me…. it’s too bulky.
My needs are different than others, so this is how things end up sometimes.

The Bosch is shorter by an inch vs my impact, the leds(three of them) placement is nice, it’s a perfectly fine impact, but just not for me.

Lol it’s a great drill don’t get me wrong but trying to consolidate platforms, like you said you were lol. Bosch had great cordless tools but kind of a limited offering compared others. So the dewalts gone but I just bought a Makita cordless grinder and in liking what they have to offer, sander, BL jog John just got, biscuit joiner, planer… You want to buy a cordless Bosch drill? Lol

I guess we can all be friends still, please just dont tell anyone! In all seriousness though, if a tool isn’t what you need or what you were looking for there is no sense in keeping it. For me I liked the fact it was shorter than other 12v’s the added bulk doesn’t hurt for what I wanted. Honestly I’m not that brand loyal, there is a good chance when my Bosch tools end up taking a dive I will switch brands again just to try something new. I’m really hoping that when my 12v’s die, Fein will have their 12v line available here.

Worst part Kruton? You can buy the Fein set from the UK but there are no chargers available for us yet. 🙁

I thought about doing that until I found out about the chargers. May have even been you that I heard that from. It’s no rush I guess, I’ve got more dang drills than I know what to do with anyway!

It may have been because I was hot to trot for the Metabo 10.8v line and was super bummed about the charger issue. I’d like to see Hilti start picking up the slack in their 12v lineup. The very short time I had those tools, I was really impressed. Truth be told though, I am thinking about clearing out my last two 18v Bosch tools and the three wireless chargers and stuff to make way for an expansion of my Dewalt tools. I am keeping my Bosch 12s though. I only have the brushless screwdriver, the vac and the FL12 plus a couple of jackets but I love the 12v lineup. Super great tools. The only reason I am going the other way with my 18s? My Dewalts are growing.

Dumb me bought into that wireless crap for a moment. I just don’t use it that much and Bosch really isn’t putting out cordless tools that are that interesting to me. They need a management change in the power tool division yes they make great durable tools but it takes way to long to get to market.

you eventually replace that impact with a fuel impact when they are on sale heck I picked up a second impact driver fuel kit for $99 with charger 1 2.0 battery and hard case…….and all your problems will be solved in fact with one of those in your tool box you can set out to solve world problems…..
Wow, I’m surprised by the size difference. I own the Bosch. I was only on here the other day posting about the Bosch 10.8/12v line being much more compact than the M12 line. I might have to go back and correct that post!
The LED approach used on the Bosch might explain why it’s fatter (kinda like the Dewalt impact drivers too).
I live in an area where there are few places you can see the top brands side by side, so I buy all my tools online and rely on posts/photos like these for insight.
Does anyone have the fuel version to compare?

I have had both and the Fuel drill is actually quite large. The Fuel impact is very compact. Both great little machines. Currently, I have the Bosch PS22 ECTech driver. It is amazing. Super super compact. I really like the new Fuel screwdriver but have steered away from Milwaukee. I am sure it’s a great little machine but the 22 fits exactly what I need for installation and assembly. Works in tandem with my Festool CXS.
I’ve been considering the ps22, great to hear your feedback on it.
This is quite interesting (source: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280737). The Metabo wrench seems quite compact. Anyone know which M12 is shown?

Yup, that is the M12 Fuel impact model #2453. The Fuels are pretty large tools. For instance I had the original M12 Hackzall and switched to the Fuel version. Much larger. Very powerful though. My Fuel drill driver was nearly the same size as my Dewalt compact 20v drill driver when it had the 4.0 battery.
The impactor is a great Milwaukee tool but I am really liking my Bosch PS22. The big thing is Milwaukees 12v range is by far the largest lineup of cordless 12v tools. I’d dare say Bosch is number 2 in the 12v lineup but I really like the tools they offer. I don’t really use a lot of 12v tools but this far I have two heated jackets, the FL12 light and the compact vacuum.
I can tell you one thing too, the barrel head of the Bosch is pretty robust, but that ECTech impactor is one super compact little machine!
PS22! Now on the top of my list. Very nice (and finally a belt clip)!
I wondered if the fuel M12 hackzall was bigger or not. The non-fuel is nearly identical to the Bosch 12v saw.
The Bosch 12v batteries look smaller than M12’s

Yeah, that has always been a mystery to me. Bosch even introduced a new 18v one handed recip similar to the Milwaukee. Regardless, brand wars are a big deal on TIA and seem to sprout up every once in a while. Milwaukee is a huge company and has some really strong offerings out there but I really like my little Bosch’s just fine. Very high quality and the size of the tools are tiny which is great for that intricate work.
I love my Bosch 12v line too. cant wait for the new brushless impacts to come out this month sometime.
I too love my Bosch 12v lineup. I recently upgraded my PS31 drill to the PS32 Brushless drill. It is a bit more compact than the PS31 and has a belt clip which I like a lot. I am a little disappointed that power was not increased and they got rid of the rubber on the front of the grip. Is the PS22 brushless screwdriver any smaller than the PS21? I do not believe I will be upgrading my PS41 impact to the brushless unit as power was not increased any. I definitely don’t need an increase in runtime as it is already awesome. I do love my 12v barrel grip jigsaw though.
As of late though, the Makita 12v lineup has me very interested and considering a switch. They new brushless varieties are awesome and quite compact. Plus, they already have a saw in the states whereas Bosch has had theirs out 3 years with no sign of it coming to NA.
The new Makita brushless drill (FD07R1) is also much more powerful than the Bosch PS32.

The PS22 is a lot shorter than the 32 and I honestly never really considered that one as my CXS has a Jacobs chuck too. The Makita look like awesome little tools and appear to be sized like the Hilti but I think the Hiltis might be a tad bit smaller.

Is that the rumor about them Fazz? That is pretty exciting. I don’t currently have a compact impactor and keeping my 12v Blues is a priority for me.

You can now pick up the Bosch brushless impact (PS42) on Ebay for $124 shipped. This seems like a pretty good price. The Bosch 10.8v (12v) circular saw, grinder, and rotary tool are all around $150 shipped for the bare tools. The damn brushless drywall screwgun has not made it to Ebay yet. I caved and got the DeWalt drywall gun kit on sale much cheaper than I could buy the 12v Bosch bare tool.

I am familiar the PS22 is a lot shorter than the PS32 since it has no chuck. There is no comparison photo of the Bosch PS22 versus this new Makita CXT brushless screwdriver. It looks like it would be a close match for sure. I have not researched the claimed power level of each.
I absolutely love my Bosch 12v tools. That being said I am curious to see where Makita is heading with their 12v lineup. I don’t know if I would be inclined to switch, but it could be interesting to see them make a run at Milwaukee. I almost grabbed one of the 12v Makita kits when they were on sale for father’s day.

The Makita 12v $99 sale kits contain their brushed models with only 1.5ah batteries. All other kits contain 2.0ah batteries.
In doing all this research today on Bosch 12v versus Makita 12v I noticed one thing which bothered me. The newest Bosch 12v brushless offerings (PS22 and PS32) are rated much lower in power compared to their brushed counterparts (PS21 & PS31).
PS21 & PS31 are rated at 265 in/lbs
PS22 & PS32 are rated at 179 in/lbs
Makita 12v CXT lineup at 280 in/lbs
These are numbers I checked with Bosch NA and Bosch Germany websites. Also noted was the Bosch PS22 and PS21 are the exact same size but the brushless PS22 is .1 pound less weight. This does not seem like a good trade off just to have a belt clip and bit holder. The PS32 is a bit smaller than the PS31.
I am not certain if this would translate in the real world. I loved my PS31 and just recently got the PS32. I have not used it much. I own both still. I guess a tool fight to prove if the brushless is indeed less powerful.
Note: The Bosch PS42 is the same dimensions as the PS41 with a slight bump in power (110nm to 105nm). Granted the PS42 gets light control, variable speed, and a belt clip. I just don’t see the innovation here. All these years the PS41 has been out and it is still a contender. Now a new version is out with new components and the size is the same with minimal power increase. I for one, will not be upgrading my PS41.

To compare drills by specs are almost impossible, as the different manufactors measure in different ways. We sell makita, dewalt and Bosch from our store, and when comparing the heavy duty drills from all of them, and Hitachi and Milwaukee as well, Hitachi dewalt and Bosch came out the strongest, in that order. All though makita and Milwaukee had the highest specs.
Bosch only says 92 nm i think. They are concidering, changing the was if meassure, and/or let a independent Company take vare of the testing.
Bying drills by only looking at specs is almost the same as bying a car by looking at the speedometer in my opinion. [emoji6]

I completely agree with you. I base my purchases off of how the tool feels in my hand and then based off of others reviews who would use the tool in a similar way that I would.
I was just throwing out there the specs that I found while internet browsing. I watch a YouTube video over the weekend that was comparing the Bosch 12v brushed to the newer brushless models. The brushless models absolutely had more power and a lot longer runtime than the brushed models. Bosch is crazy for putting the torque specs up there like they have it.
Rest easy Bosch 12v owners. The brushless are powerful little tools!
