Over the past year, it seems like every manufacturer is coming out with LED lighting solutions. Not that I am saying this is a bad thing because we all know its great to be able to see. All I am saying is I think it’s great seeing more and more LED lights coming to market. Remember the old incandescent light? They would get hot and if you drop them, you better have another bulb ready or you will be in the dark. So speaking of LED lighting solutions, Bosch has an 18V light available. A little over a year ago, Bosch introduced their 12V Work Light, FL12. Now they have an LED light out for their 18V, the Bosch Work Light model GLI18V-420B.
I have to admit, this is a pretty cool light. I love the compact size and some of the other features it has to offer. When Bosch designed this tool, they designed it to work with their 18V battery platform. When I first opened the box, I was surprised to see this light comes in a carry case for your side, I thought that was a nice touch. Not that I needed one, but it’s nice to be able to protect it since it’s small and will get tossed around when not in use. Okay, so it’s small, but don’t let that fool you as this has 420 lumens and get this, it only uses 3 LED lights to get that many lumens, pretty crazy isn’t it? So it puts out 420 lumens, but this has some crazy run times. With a Bosch 18V 6Ah battery, you will get about 13.5 hours of runtime. As you can see, the front of the light has heat sinks, which also helps protect the light.
While most lights have a high and a low light, the Bosch doesn’t. Instead, Bosch has something that I think is very cool. As you can, there is a red button on the front. This is to turn the light on and off. Once the light is on, here is where the cool factor comes into place. If you want a straight or high-intensity light, this light provides it. However, if you want more of a flood light or have the light diffused, you can just turn the plastic lens cover to the right and it will now diffuse the light. I think this is so cool. I know there are times you want a bright spot light, but then other times you want a softer light or more of a flood light. Now you can do both with one light.
As you guessed it, you can pretty much aim the light in any direction you want. The head swivels and if that isn’t enough, you can move the black strap away from the base and hang up the light.
This is a light I have been waiting for a long time to come to market. It’s simple, you can use it as a high-intensity spot light or flood light, it’s small and powerful. Seriously, what else can you really ask for in a light? This is perfect for plumbers who work under a sink, carpenters, electricians or any tradesmen. This is just another cool tool from Bosch and if you are in the 18V line up, this is a nice addition to any professional user.
