DeWALT DCW100K Portable Stick and Tig Welder

Dewalt welder

While recently at STAFDA we came across this portable welder.  It has a built-in Lithium Ion battery to allow for complete cord free welding.  It has an external charger that keeps it charged when plugged in and can charge it in about 50 minutes. You can use it with or without the cord with a 20 AMP circuit. The welder weighs just under 25 lbs so it is easy to carry just about anywhere.  For field maintenance this is a godsend.

It produces 140 Amps max Stick and 150 Amps Max Tig.  A 10′ ground lead and 13″ stick electrode lead allows for maximum reach.  Among some other features are a hot/soft start setting to help maintain a stable arc and low amperage.  An Arc Force Dynamic setting increases the amperage to help prevent a weld pool from solidifying.

dcw100kThis unit will open up an a whole new world to field maintenance techs.  We hope to get one in the hands of a Pro real soon to find out what they think.  For more check out DeWALT.com

  1. Wow, this is a cool little welder, i am always welding parts for my machines and this would be great to weld minor things in the field and not have to bring it into the shop! Can’t wait to see the tool review!

  2. I have no idea how to weld, but would love to learn. This one seems a bit more user friendly from what I seen online. It’s also portable & it looks compact. Maybe I can sneak this one in the corner of the garage & wifey might miss it. Laters TIA

  3. I’ve heard of people welding with car batteries before, but I’ve never seen it done successfully, or with any significant penetration. This is nothing more than that. An expensive novelty….expensive to buy, with expensive replacement parts, producing very little results.

Prediction on performance: lays down a one inch bead of 1/8″ rod on dc setting before running out of power. Minimal penetration on beveled material. Will not pass xray. Will not magnaflux. Extreme porosity. 20 hr charge time. Replacement batteries cost 80% total cost of machine. No practical application for this bs machine.

    • So John Turner, you don’t own this speific tool and have never used this specific tool? But you have heard of other people using something like it, but very different? It’s like basing a new truck off of an old truck. The old one underperformes and possibly breaks so the new one must also be a shit box, cause they never make anything better or fix the known down falls of other older equipment. Pull your pants up before you speak next time, I don’t want to step in what you’re spraying. Good day sir.

  4. Interesting, don’t necessarily need a weld rig on a regular basis, but would be great to have when needed. Any word on the battery sizes and cordless run time? And the tool wish list grows…
