FLIR TG165 Imaging IR Thermometer

5

You really don’t know what you are missing until you use a thermal imaging thermometer.  There are a few on the market for the trades including the $2500 M12 Milwaukee imager which is a true thermal imager, the $900 DeWALT DCT416S1 imaging thermometer and now the $500 FLIR TG165.  In short an imaging thermometer mixes a thermal image with a real image and emulates an imager.  Unless you need high-resolution heat maps an imaging IR thermometer will do you just fine.  It is amazing how fast you can troubleshoot with this device.

The unit has the ability to take a picture and save it to the included mini sd card. It has a 2 laser system to show you where it is taking the reading from.  It can show both a color and grayscale image.

We like the FLIR TG165 the best out of the 3 tools mentioned above.  It is a quick easy to use tool that any tradesman will appreciate.  Best of all the $500 price tag makes it a no brainer.  The only thing I would have liked to have seen was a cover or case for the unit.  The instruments at the front are susceptible to damage when you store it in your tool bag.

  1. Did you guys ever reviewed DeWalts thermo reader DCT414S1? I can’t afford this one, but I saw the DeWalt thermo for $110. Good buy? these are cool. Laters TIA

  2. Oh, this one is much expensive, can you please recommend some cheaper ones? IR thermometer is really useful and I want to have them at home.

  3. Would have loved to have one of those when trying to find open ended ducts in my basement. Spent several hours feeling the ceiling to see where it was cold. Then I cut the dry wall out in a hit or miss fashion. All in all I found 3 round ducts wide open blowing cold air behind the drywall. The contractor for the previous owners was absolutely horrible, I’ve been fixing mistakes constantly in my house from them.
