What do we grab for when we need to cut a quick hole, large hole? Yep you guessed it, our Spade bits. For those of you who don’t know what a spade bit is, a spade bit is a bit used on a drill and is used for rough boring in wood. They tend to cause splintering when they emerge from the work piece, that’s why they say they are for rough drilling.
We came across the MaxTech 51643MX Pro Spade bit set. Now we could go into a long article and explain all the ins and outs of these bits and other spade bits, but as you guessed, there really is not much to talk about, plus we are not good writers. So we decided to keep this short, simple and to the point.
The MaxTech spade set comes with 9 different bits and a Load N’ Driver quick connect. They are held in a nice carrying case to help protect the bits and keep you organized. A couple things we did want to note is they are made from high grade steel and they have a hex shank. The tips of the spade bits are angled (Rake Angle) for a faster, cleaner cut which we really liked about these bits. The quick connector is a great feature as you can change bits on the fly, very easy and fast. You can see in the video we just ran them through some wood, so you can see these bits in action. So there you have it. It’s hard to write a real detailed article on spade bits and we didn’t want to bore you. The bottom line is the pouch is nice and these ran through the wood with no problems. I would have no problems keeping these in my tool bag and feeling comfortable grabbing for them when I need a spade bit to do a job. The kit also includes a short 1″ spade bit perfect for your right angle drill to get in tight spots.
