Klein has been producing electrician tools from day one. They know the industry and know the people. When it comes to quality, just ask any electrician and I am sure they will have a story about one of their tools. In fact, I am sure they will pull out a tool and tell you about when their father was using the tools. But I am sure most of you already know Klein so let’s jump into the Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife Review.
Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife Review – Overview
Skinning large diameter cable can be tricky and let’s face it, a pain in the butt. The sheathing is hard and thick in order to protect the wires. In the past, cutting this sheathing off was a daunting task. Recently Klein introduced a new utility knife to help make this task much easier.
Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife Review – Features
The knife features a nice rubber grip to have complete control over the knife during cuts.
The knife features a high-quality sheepfoot blade to perform the task easily.
The 440A blade is replaceable using a flathead screwdriver.
To open the blade just use the thumb screw and push open. Even with gloves on the Klein utility knife is easy to open.
To close the knife, just push down on the locking lever and you can close the knife back up and protect you and the blade.
The belt clip is made of metal and will hold tight when not in use.
Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife Review – Performance
I am not a guy skinning cable all day but we did give it to an electrician and he absolutely loved the knife. He said it was much easier to perform the task. A couple items he loved about the tool was being able to open and close the knife with gloves on.
He also liked how it stayed sharp for a long time and allowed him to cut a ton of sheathing. While he did wish you could change the blade without a screwdriver, he also said it wasn’t a big deal since he wasn’t changing the blade that often.
Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife Review – Value
The knife is priced for about $20 on Amazon with blade replacements for about $10. Considering the quality of knife and how much it can make your life easier, this is a great value.
Klein Cable Skinning Utility Knife Review – Final Thoughts
The bottom line, for $20 this is a must have for any electrician dealing with larger cables and needing to remove the cover. The knife is a quality knife that stays sharp longer. With an easily replaceable blade and a nice feeling in your hand, why not get one for your arsenal?
Seems like a good knife at a reasonable price. Nice review Eric
