DeWALT has been flexing some muscle in the saw market lately. The DCS331 resembles the 18V DC330, it has the same 1″ stroke and 3000 spm, however with the addition of 20V lithium power and the 20V ergonomic handle design make it an all new beast. It has plenty of power and really impressed us. The saw feels solid and well built, I have had a DC330 for many years, it still works perfect. With the included 3.0 Li-ion battery allows for fade free power and extended run times.
The balance of this saw is great. When we cut though 3/4″ plywood the DCS331 stayed planted the entire cut, there was no chatter, blade twisting or wandering. Blade removal is easy, just pull the big metal lever at the front of the unit and the blade should drop right out. The 5.4 lb jigsaw is very comfortable to hold , the saw easily goes where you point it and can scroll with minimal effort. We were very impressed at the way this saw scrolled, in-fact it scrolls a tad better than the Metabo STA 18 LTX that won our Jigsaw of the year last year. The variable speed trigger gives you complete control over the power of the saw and it is very responsive. The saw has 4 orbital settings selected by a switch on the left side and on the right side is the dust blower switch.
The all-metal keyless shoe bevel has detents at 0°, 15°, 30° and 45, this is a huge time saver that works great and stays where you lock it. The kit comes with a case, 2 blades, plastic shoe cover, plastic chip guard, a charger and a new 3.0 Battery with the fuel status gauge. To wrap it up I think that the DCS331 could quite possibly be the king of the cordless 18v/20v jigsaws. My only complaint with this tool is that there is no LED light! Every tool should have an LED light in it these days, even if it has no purpose! It just looks cool! They could design a cool DWS780 XPS like led that emits a shadow line. always want a jigsaw but dont know which one
The detent on my 18V Dewalt jigsaw just broke. That was one of the many features I like about this saw. Maybe time for a visit to the parts center.
I love using this jigsaw, I’m not very good with jigsaws but time and practice will pay off Im sure. Problem is, I rarely get to use the jigsaw.
