Tools in Action has long touted that the Dewalt Drill/Driver and the Impact Driver are one of the most comfortable tools on the market. Not sure if it’s the power, the grip or balance, but we love these two tools. Well now Dewalt introduced a new impact driver. The Dewalt DCF887D2 doesn’t fail as it still has that great feel and plenty of power to go around. Not to mention the run time.
The new Dewalt DCF887D2 is based on a 1/4″ hex chuck to get the job done. Inside the tool is where all the magic is located. Dewalt designed this impact driver with a brushless motor which means more power and longer run times. One feature I love about this tool is the 3 ring LED light system placed on the front of the driver. Most companies put their LED light on the base of the tool or just above the trigger. As you know these locations tend to either have a shadow or they get completely blacked out when you have gloves on. The three LED system is awesome as you get very little shadow and it sheds a ton of light on the area you need lit up most. Plus Dewalt incorporated a 20 second delay when you take your finger off the variable speed trigger. Another cool feature is the 3 speed modes on this driver. The speed selector modes are located on the base of the tool. While this tool seems small (5.3″ in length) and lightweight, it puts out a ton of power and speed. The no load speeds are 0-1000/ 2,800/ 3,250 rpm with 3,600 ipm.
There isn’t really a ton to talk about impact drivers, but this Dewalt features everything you would want in a quality driver. The feel and balance are great, so working all day long with this tool isn’t an issue on your hands, wrist or arms. There is plenty of power to tough it out through most applications. In regards to speed, it is the cheetah of impact drivers.
