Ridgid Compact Band Saw

What do you think of when you think of Ridgid?  For me, I think power, performance, and lifetime warranty.  Over the years we have done a wide range of tool fights.  Almost every time we have a tool fight, Ridgid seems to come out on top.  Today we are going to look at a new addition, the Ridgid Compact Band Saw.

Ridgid Compact Band Saw Overview

As you may know, I have been working on my house for a while.  I had a landscaper come over to quote me for my backyard as that is a huge mess.  As I normally do, I like to ask what power tools people like or use.  Well after an hour of this guy telling me all his love for Ridgid and why that is the only company he will buy, I finally received my quote.

I joke around and maybe it wasn’t an hour but he sure went on.  For me, I love hearing when people get excited about their tools.  I found it fascinating that he brought up Ridgid as I don’t picture Ridgid in a landscaper’s arsenal.  But as he said, he breaks up concrete, removing different items in the yard like light poles and more.  So after he explained all the tools he used, I quickly understood how they can be integrated into their tool arsenal.  I know this doesn’t have much to do with the bandsaw we are talking about today, but I wanted to let you know because this guy’s positive experience isn’t the only one I have heard about Ridgid.

Ridgid is a company that is known for its professional power tools and offering good value. So if you are new to Ridgid and this is going to be your first purchase, you can understand what you are buying into, a solid tool company.

Ridgid Compact Band Saw Features

Ridgid Compact Band Saw

The Ridgid compact band saw, model R8604B, offers a variable speed of 320 – 680 SPFM. The saw features a 32-7/8″.

While the saw can be powered by any Ridgid 18V battery, it is designed to work best with the newer Octane batteries.  For this review, we used it with a 6Ah battery.

The saw features a 2-1/2″ cut capacity, which makes it great for EMT, PVC, Unistrut, wood, and other common materials.

The handle has your typical Ridgid grip which offers the rubber over-mold and comfortable handle.

While using the tool, you can easily adjust the speed using the variable speed dial just above the handle.

On the backside, the saw is open so you can clean or change the blade easily.

Just turn the handle and it will release the tension on a wheel which will allow you to change the blade.

The saw also features a rafter hook which can be folded away when not in use.

Ridgid Compact Band Saw Performance

When it comes to performance, Ridgid always performs and this saw is no exception.  The saw is fast, easy to work with, and has good balance.  When it comes down to it, there is really nothing to complain about with this saw as it performs better than expected.

Ridgid Compact Band Saw Value

You can pick this saw up at The Home Depot for about $180 as a bare tool.  For me, I think this is a great deal. This is a tool that fits the Ridgid line and will be used by a lot of contractors.  So for $180 to make your life easier, it’s worth the price.

Ridgid Compact Band Saw Final Thoughts

When it comes to quality power tools, Ridgid is one of the top. This saw is fast and easy to work with.  I think this is a great addition to their ever-growing line of 18V power tools.
