OLFA MXP Knife

When it comes to utility knives, what knife do you use? Growing up, I always used the metal utility knife that you would take the screw out and then have to replace the blade.  You could never get the screw out unless you had a quarter on you.  Times have changed and now there are a bunch of new utility knives on the market.  OLFA is one of the utility knives that we have come to love.  They are lightweight, durable, have very sharp blades that last, it’s easy to change the blades and numerous other features.  So let’s take a look at the OLFA MXP Knife.

OLFA MXP Knife – First Impressions

I have to admit, the first time I heard of OLFA and saw pictures, I just thought they were sold at the dollar store.  After using them for the last couple of years, they are anything but cheap.  Sure the price isn’t bad, but the blades and the mechanical features are all great.  Now put this into an aluminum body and it’s a great knife, especially for $18.

While I will still use the plastic version at the house, I really like the MXP build quality. I just can’t decide if I like the push button or the flywheel to adjust blade length. Glad I have both.

OLFA MXP Knife – Wrap Up

Overall, I like these knives.  While I have worked with plastic OFLA knives over the years, I like the aluminum construction.  I never thought I would like a breakable blade but after using it for the last couple of years, I see a real advantage. The aluminum just feels like a heavy and better built knife.  For an $18 utility knife, it’s a good deal.
