It’s that time of year when the leaves are changing colors and they are about to fall.  They will start to cover up your grass and clog up your gutters.  Now you may be in the market for a new blower either because yours is getting old or you have been hearing good things about battery powered blowers.   We see our neighbors with their fancy blowers, we see ads on TV or the newspaper and we see them at our local hardware store.  So which one is the best one on the market?  Which would meet our needs and which...

Troy-Bilt Mustang Pivot 46 Zero-Turn Rider

If you have never used a zero turn and you are in the market for a new riding lawn mower, you might want to look at a zero turn.  Why would I say you should look at a zero turn?  A zero turn is precisely just that, a lawn mower that turns on a dime.  While traditional lawn mowers have a wider turning radius, a zero turn has a zero turn radius which makes it perfect for most lawns.  Now before you say I have used a zero turn and just don’t like the idea of having two bars...

Troy-Bilt FLEX Mower and Blower – First Look

Most of the innovation in the outdoor power equipment category has been focused on electric power.  Those with bigger yards still need gas power and Troy-Bilt has brought on the innovation.  They sent us the FLEX, which is a mower, blower, snow thrower and pressure washer all powered by a single engine.  Basically you have one power base that is easily attached to all of the accessories. This means less space to store all of you equipment and just one engine to maintain. Like everyone we were skeptical about this new to the USA market design.  Once we had some time with it under our belt we started to see the advantages of the FLEX.  Of course with any advantages come disadvantages and this setup is not for everyone. You start with the power equipment base.  Connecting attachments is a breeze, as demonstrated in the video below. It is so easy a grandma could do it.  You simply lift the kickstand, hook the attachment and lift up which locks it in position.  The base has a 208cc engine which is simple to start although we would have like to of seen an additional electric start.  For winter operations it has a switch to direct the air intake towards the exhaust for better cold weather operation.  The handles are completely adjustable and fold down for storage.  The Power Equipment Base...

Troy-Bilt 2490 3 Stage Vortex Snow Thrower – Review

Last year in Chicago we got hammered with snow, it was insane.  So this year I tried to be proactive and get a snow blower before the season started.  Well we had absolutely no snow until February 1st when we got 19 inches. It turned out to be the third biggest snow storm Chicago has ever seen. Luckily we had the new Troy-Bilt Vortex 2490 to tackle this massive storm.  Snow blowers come in all shapes and sizes and you really need to choose one that fits your needs.  For a small walkway with light snow storms this is...

Troy-Bilt Storm 2410 Snow Thrower Review- Chicago Winter Approved

Winter in Chicago blows, luckily so does the the Troy-Bilt 2400 Storm.  Okay enough with the jokes, it has been brutal here in Chicago.  Below zero temps are the norm and snow is an almost everyday occurrence.  With all this snow and plowing, my driveway was getting smaller and smaller with the snow piles mounting up.  As soon as the Troy-Bolt 2410 Storm arrived it was put to work reclaiming my driveway.  I worked it into the icy snow piles and eventually got all of my driveway back.  A snow thrower can direct the snow where you want it...

Troy-Bilt Mustang 50 Zero-Turn Mower – Review

Zero turns are nothing new, they have been around for quite a while.  The Troy-Bilt Mustang 50 is one of the easiest if not the easiest to operate Zero-turn on the market.  Troy-Built put all the operating controls on the right side making everything readily available.  The throttle is combined with the choke and a multi function LCD display tells you your hours and voltage.  The yellow PTO knob is located right next to these controls.  Another ease of use feature that Troy-Bilt added was to integrate the parking brake into the lap bars.  Spreading the adjustable lap bars...

Troy-Bilt Storm Tracker 2690 XP Snow Thrower – The Cadillac of Snow Throwers

As I write this Boston has over 2 feet of snow on the ground and we had 7.5″ of wet heavy snow here in Chicago.  When I arrived back from sunny Las Vegas I was greeted with the picture below. They call this heart attack snow because of how heavy it is.  I certainly was happy that I had the Troy-Bilt Storm Tracker  2690 XP Snow Thrower to test out.  The 2690 has a 26″ clearing width and is a 2 stage unit.  This means that snow is automatically fed into a fast spinning fan that shoots the snow far....

Troy-Bilt TB30 R Neighborhood Rider 30″ Riding Lawn Mower – 20 Hour Update

We have put about 20 hours on the Troy-Bilt TB30 now mowing a 2 acre lot.  Since our initial review here, we have had a chance to really use the unit and put it through its paces.  Power is plentiful, even through tall wet grass,  I know you’re not supposed to mow wet grass, but we have an area that is always wet and needs to be mowed.  The TB30 does not even hiccup, it powers right through.  Starting is simple and reliable, the Briggs and Stratton engine is a great runner.  1 acre and under is what is recommended for the Neighborhood Rider.  We have been cutting double that and are still comfortable at the end of an extended 2+ hr mow.  The fuel tank is more than enough to mow the 2 acres without refueling. The TB30 is for flat lawns only and anything more than a 12 degree slope is not recommended.  The unit can get a bit hairy on uneven terrain.  With the over sized fuel fill I hardly ever spill gas, which is a good thing especially if your filling up in the grass.  When turning the steering wheel to full it tends to stick a little upon return to center especially at full speed.  Overall the TB30 has impressed us with its reliability, quality and powerful engine.  It is a good choice for...

Troy-Bilt Squall 2100 208cc 21″ Single-Stage Gas Snow Blower – Review

Well well, it finally snowed here in Chicago.  We have had no snow until now.  We got 6″ , time to test out the Troy-Bilt Squall 2100 that you can get at Lowes.  The 2100 is a single stage snow thrower which is good for smaller drives and light to moderate snow fall.  The main feature that we liked was the 208cc 4 cycle motor, no more smoke and having to mix oil.  The blower clears a respectable 21″ path and even has drift cutters to slice through drifts.  It comes mostly assembled and you have to unfold the...
