Husky Portable Workbench Review 01

Husky seems to be a name that has consistently earned high praise for their durability and rugged construction. I have to say I agree, and the brand has yet to disappoint me overall. The Husky Portable Workbench had me intrigued. Not only was it meant to be a powerhouse when supporting weight, but it also had a router insert plate as well. I was definitely curious, so let’s see how it measures up and take a look at the Husky Portable Workbench Review.

Husky Portable Jobsite Workbench Review Overview

The Husky Portable Jobsite Workbench, model 225047, was designed to be a portable and stable worksite table that could serve multiple purposes. The Husky Workbench weighs in at just under twenty pounds and is able to support an impressive 1500 pounds.

The table is compact and stores flat or upright easily making it less cumbersome than full-size workbenches. The handle was also a solid addition increasing the ease of portability. When folded the table is 34.6 inches wide and 4.4 inches thick, allowing for easy storage. When assembled the table is 38.2 inches wide, 25.4 inches deep and 31.9 inches high giving the table significant surface space.

Set up was simple and the table has a self-contained storage design. Containing both a small storage box and the tables legs.

The legs are strong and sturdy, as they attach to the table top by a screw and latch. The legs are constructed of metal and plastic and contain rubber feet to improve stability. I was genuinely impressed with this design feature, as similar models use folding legs and often sacrifice strength and stability to do so.

There are two metal rails within the workbench top that allow for bar clamps or the included screw clamps. The screw clamps could easily be used for creating a fence which is useful for the router capabilities.

The option of using bar clamps within the tracks creates countless utilities, an example would be securing a workpiece or an alternate fence install.

There are four metal brackets that hold 2X4s which could have several uses.

One of which is simply increasing the size of the workspace, or another is allowing 2X4s to serve as wood support when using a miter saw.  You could also use these supports to secure a 2X4 while cutting it.

Within the small workbox, there were 4 dividers for customization of the box allowing it to serve its users purpose. It also contained alternate router table inserts, included screw-on clamps and brackets.

The table itself packs a punch, but the feature that distinguishes it from other portable workbenches is the included router plate. The insert is removed by four simple screws and is made from plastic that has reinforced ribbing underneath.

I own a DeWalt DW618PKB and attempted to attach it to the router plate. I did have to drill holes to make it work, which can be a bit difficult because the screws have to somewhat countersink in order to sit flush. There are numerous ways to correct this, and most router tables and insert plates seem to need some adjustments to be compatible across brands.

This Husky workbench is strong, sturdy and versatile. I was pleased with its overall capabilities and some of the features such as the brackets and included tracks were genius. The only thing I felt fell short was the router insert plate, because of the adjustments I had to make. I definitely felt the feature once set up served the purpose and while it wouldn’t replace a fully functional router table, it is an amazing feature to be included.

Husky Portable Workbench Review Value

The Husky Portable Workbench retails for about $80 and can be found at Home Depot. For the price tag, this Husky surprised me in the best way. Not only is it reasonable for a portable workbench, the table also goes above and beyond to include features that increase its versatility. The compact nature makes this workbench an easy win for most anyone, from a homeowner to a professional.

Husky Portable Workbench Review Final Thoughts

This table is an exceptional value with several features that really set this workbench apart from others. Even with the slight speedbump with the router plate, it is still a feature that was innovative and for the professional means not needing a separate routing table on worksites. Husky thought of every consumer in this design and homeowners will love the number of capabilities this workbench has especially with its small storage footprint.

  1. I got this table on a Black Friday a couple of years ago and I love it. The ability to use it as a router table is what makes it stand out from other tables of it’s kind. Great table!

  2. I’ve been looking for a replacement to the folding not-supposed-to-be-a-table that I’m using now, and I have never seen this in The Home Depot, probably because I wasn’t looking for it. I’m going to have to look for it the next time we’re there, and just maybe I’ll walk out with one. I just wish the legs were adjustable to make the work surface higher. Being 6′ has it’s disadvantages when you have to bend over all the time to work. Especially when you have back problems and no flexibility in your neck due to surgery and the resulting limited movement of your head that goes along with it.

    • Hey David! I had a Black & Decker WorkMate prior, the old style ones that are honestly more like a sawhorse than a workbench, but they work great in a lot of ways too! This Husky though is amazing! I actually received mine as a gift from my father in law, and I really think its a gem! I can see your point about the legs being adjustable, although I am 5’6″ tall and I didn’t think it was too short as it sat higher than most I’ve seen or used. I’ve made several workbenches but even on casters, the portability isn’t a match for something like this. These are just so handy!

I am not sure if you have ever done this, but if you look an item up on Home Depot’s website, there is a feature that will give you the aisle number and bay for your local store. I use that all the time!

I’m sorry to hear about your back issues, although I can sympathize! Hoping you find some healing and a good solution to the workbench dilemma!

    • I’ve been using my table for more than several years. Still think it is the best work table out there. The router table feature has been most useful on more than one occasion. The table is sturdy and very stable for routing, cutting, carving and machining wood. It also serves well as a good work table when painting a room.

  3. What are the dimensions of the router plate. I have a router lift I would like to use and was wondering if it would fit into this table.
