Hilti SFD 2-A 12V Impact Driver

Hilti SFD 2-A

In general, the impact driver is probably my most used and my favorite tool around.  Now that Hilti came out with their new 12v tool, my life is complete.  Okay maybe that is saying a little much, but I have to say Hilti did a great job with their new 12v line of tools.  The Hilti SFD 2-A is one of three new tools Hilti introduced to their 12v line.  If you would like to see an overview of the whole line, check out our overview of the Hilti 12V combo kit.

The Hilti SFD 2-A is designed as a sub compact impact driver.  So those looking for performance in a small tool, this will not disappoint you.  The tool weighs a little under 2 lbs and is only 5.66″ long.  While the torque specs are a little less than some of it competitors, it’s also not as heavy or bulky.  The impact driver delivers 212 in-lbs of torque.  The impact has 2 gear settings that produce 0-400 / 0-1,500 no load rpm.  So all said and done, this is a great little impact driver and has a nice balance of size and power.

I have to say while I love this tool, there a couple things I would like to see a little different.  First, I love how compact this impact tool is.  It will allow a user to get into tight places.  Even though it’s small, it still has a lot of power to get most jobs done.  The grip on the impact is extremely comfortable as my hand fits nicely around the tool.  Hilti designed the impact with a front and rear rubber that helps improve a users grip.  The 15 torque setting allows a user to easily adjust the tool settings to the application.  While I love the two base LED lights, I would have really preferred an LED light ring around the head of the tool, just like their SID 18-A.  The tool comes with a belt clip that will allow the user to mount the clip on either the left or right side of the tool.  In regards to power, the tool uses a 2.6Ah battery.  One thing to note is the battery status gauge is actually on the battery and not the tool.  Speaking of the battery, I do notice a a little movement between the battery and the tool.  Not a lot by any means, but just something to note.  I personally don’t think it will effect the tool over the many years you will have this, but a note.  With that said, I have yet to see many slide packs of any manufacturer have a really tight fit.  With those two cons I stated, it wouldn’t affect me from buying this tool because in regards to light, the base light does an awesome job showing up the work space, I am just being more picky.  There are too many pros to this tool and the really important aspects such as feel, balance, power and size are all spot on.

As of today, you can buy this whole Hilti 12V kit $299, which is a steal.

  1. The thing I like about my m12 screw driver is it has a drill mode where it won’t clutch out, nice having to drill a quick hole. #TIACREW

  2. #TIATOOLS I do like them they look like a good buy, but like you said Milwaukee dominates the 12v line. I gave my former brother in law my 12 Dewalts, and my father in law my 12v Bosch. You get alot of bang for your buck with Milwaukee. But I did keep my Bosch 18 volt line love them.

  3. Not a bad price at all! While I am Hilti curious, the downside of where I am is, there are no Hilti centers/vendors around here, I have yet to find a place that has a little display to try these out or a place for parts etc… If that were to change, however… never know…
