DW713 10″ Compound Miter Saw –

5
10 inch miter saw

DeWALT really has it together when it comes to miter saws.  The 12″ DWS780 is our favorite miter saw by far, it excels at most everything.  But sometimes you don’t want to carry around such a big saw.  Enter the 10″ miter saw, it weighs only 35 lbs.  Sure it doesn’t have a slide or a double bevel but it can accomplish most everything its big brother can just on smaller material.  Another bonus to its size is that it can be placed on a work bench against a wall.

The saw tilts one way for compound cuts and has a 50 degree miter in either direction.  The miter has positive stop detents for the most common cuts.  The DW713 has a type 1 and type 2 version.  The difference is in the handle and the type 1 can accept an LED light kit while the type 2 cannot.  Unfortunately there is no way to differentiate these types from the box.  The type is stamped on the actual saw.  From my understanding most saws produced now are type 2.

Overall I think this saw is a great bargain at around $200, it is well built and operates very smooth.  It is covered by a 3 year warranty.  I got to use it on a wood floor project and it made straight smooth cuts every time.

  1. This is the saw I went with last Black Friday, not sure if it’s the same model (10″ mitre) & mine does except the led light kit with laser. To boot I got a stand for free as well, it was used but I didn’t care. I’m extremely happy with it & I do not miss cutting with my circular saw. Well, I do miss cutting with my circular saw & I still do quick cuts with it. I went with this smaller one because of space in my garage & like Dan’s write up mentions this one can do almost everything big bro can. Did summer I did a picnic table plus chairs out of 2*4’s & 2*6’s. I also have the luxury of using the 780, because my brother has it. That is a beast of a machine he has it with the rolling stand. Great saw. Laters TIA

  2. 10″ is the way to go for the most part. Sliding saws do give you a bigger cross cut. But , not a bad saw at a good price too. Nice to see some wood working stuff being reviewed. Any table saws in the works?

  3. I wanted to get the Dewalt Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw but settled on the Ryobi of similar type instead. Not the same thing but does the job.
