DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review

Dewalt Flexvolt Compressor Review

Battery technology has come a long way over the years.  What we once thought was impossible is now possible with Lithium-Ion batteries.  Power tool manufacturers are designing and producing stronger, faster and more efficient cordless tools.  We no longer need to be tied to an outlet.  One of these power tools that has been cutting the cord is compressors.  We are now starting to see cordless compressors.  We first saw it with the Ridgid cordless compressor and now we see it with the DEWALT compressor.  So sit back and check out our DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review.

DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review Overview

Dewalt Flexvolt Compressor Review

DEWALT invested heavy into their Flexvolt line of tools which is a 60V battery but will also power their 20V tools.  So those high demand tools, the Flexvolt steps up and runs 60V to give you the power you need.

The advantage of this is you can now run a compressor for extended periods of time.  Having a cordless compressor is awesome.  It means you are not tied to any outlet.  You might be asking yourself why do I really need a cordless compressor when I can get a cordless nailer?

For some people, they still don’t like the way cordless nailers perform.  They still want the power and consistency of a pneumatic nailer.  However, there are still plenty of people out there who haven’t invested into a cordless nailer and still use their pneumatic nailer.  Another reason you might want a cordless compressor is you can carry the tank around and fill up your tires.  Without getting into too much depth, I think you understand the need for a cordless compressor.

DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review Features

DEWALT built the Flexvolt brushless compressor around a 2.5-gallon steel tank.  You should get about 1,200 nails per charge but again that depends on the size of the nails and the wood you are firing into.  The unit uses an oil-free pump for a no-maintenance solution.  The unit weighs in at about 21 lbs.

The front of the compressor has a very nice layout and is easy to read and operate.

The pressure gauge is easy to read and the needle doesn’t jump around when the compressor is running.  The max PSI is 135.  The unit puts out 1.2 SCFM @ 90.

On the right side, you can regulate the pressure.  While most compressors use a needle and turn valve to adjust the pressure, Dewalt uses a knob.  Just turn the knob to the desired position and you are all set.

The safety release valve is located on the left side of the compressor.

The unit has one coupler which is located on the right side of the compressor.

There is a sealed on/off switch located towards the top of the compressor.

DEWALT uses a ball drain valve to drain the tank when not in use.  This is located on the bottom side of the tank.

On the bottom of the compressor, there are four rubber feet.  Not only do the rubber feet protect the surface, but they also keep it in place when the tank is filling and you don’t have to worry about the compressor moving around.

DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review Performance

The size of the unit makes it easy to carry around.  Plus with it only weighing 21 lbs, it’s another reason to love this compressor.

To fill the compressor it takes a little over 2 minutes to get the tank pressure up to 135 psi.

DEWALT indicated the noise level is 79 dB which isn’t bad for a compressor.  For me, it’s a little loud but maybe that’s because I am used to a Rolair compressor and those are extremely quiet.  However, they are not cordless.

I love the regulator knob.  I am so used to having to turn a valve and waiting to see what the needle stops at.  With the DEWALT, just turn it and forget it.  Pretty cool.

DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review Value

For about $300 at The Home Depot, you get this compressor, a Flexvolt battery, and charger.  This really isn’t a bad deal.  I think anyone looking for a cordless solution that offers plenty of power and run time would agree that this is a great price point.

DEWALT Flexvolt Compressor Review Final Thoughts

I don’t get to use much of the Flexvolt but the items I have used, I have been impressed with.  I love how DEWALT is really trying to make a cordless jobsite.  The Flexvolt miter saw and table saw have been huge winners and the Flexvolt compressor is just another addition to this lineup.
