Bosch GLM 20 Laser Review

When it comes to Laser Measurers (LDM), Bosch is at the forefront of LDM’s.  Most companies have a single or maybe two different products available.  Bosch does it right.  Instead of having a single product, Bosch has multiple LDM’s so a user can buy only what they need with their tool.  In the Bosch Blaze line, they offer a total of 9 different LDM’s.  So let’s jump into the Bosch GLM 20 Laser Review.

Bosch GLM 20 Laser Review Overview

Taking accurate measurements are crucial for a variety of reasons.  When you create an estimate for a customer, you have to make sure you’re accurate.  If not you can overbid and lose the job or underbid and cost yourself money.  Same goes for when you’re buying supplies.  If you don’t measure correctly, then it’s more time to run back to the store and get the extra materials.  Okay, I think you know where I am going.  Accuracy is everything.

Bosch has a line of LDMs called Blaze.  Basically, it’s a line designed for accuracy, efficiency, and ease of operation.  The GLM 20 is a single push button LDM that is designed for quick measurements up to 65′.  Plain, simple and easy.

On the front of the LDM, there is a single red button that not only acts as a power on and off button but also is used to take a measurement.

Bosch uses a large screen (same size as the Bosch GLM 15).  The numbers are large and easy to read.

While the GLM had a range of 50′, the Bosch GLM 20 can reach up to 65′ with an accuracy of +/- 1/8″.  The LDM has an operation range of 14° F up to 104° F.

As with all the other Bosch lasers, the tool is designed for rugged conditions and designed with the idea that users will drop this tool.  The bottom is protected with a rubber bumper, along with the sides which are also protected.

The unit runs off 2 AA batteries, which are included.

The LDM utilizes a red dot to see exactly where you are taking a reading from.  The red dot is large, bright and easy to view, even from far away.

The unit will take a continuous reading.  When you are ready to take a reading, just push a button and you can see the measurement on the screen.  The LDM will show your current and your last reading.

Using the laser is straightforward and easy to use.  The red dot is extremely easy to see even from 60′ away.  I like how quick the unit takes a continuous reading.  During continuous readings, there isn’t any lag in taking one reading from the next reading.

Now I did find it hard to take a measurement outside when I was in direct sunlight, but I have never seen an LDM be able to take a measurement when it’s in direct sunlight.  I could easily take a measurement outside, so it would only be in a couple of cases where the sun was directly hitting a white wall and it would be hard to pick up the measurement under this condition.

Bosch GLM 20 Laser Review Value

The Bosch GLM 20 retails for about $40 on The Home Depot website.  For an LDM that is accurate, durable and easy to use, $40 is a decent price.  Sure you can get an LDM for less, but Bosch is known for their LDMs so why save a couple extra bucks when you can get the best for under $40?

Bosch GLM 20 Laser Review Final Thoughts

When it comes to handheld Laser Measuring tools, Bosch is one of the top players.  They offer a wide variety of different laser measurers.  You can buy a simple, single push button to take quick measurements or you can buy a fully packed laser that offers a wide range of features and benefits.  Bosch lasers are accurate and durable, which holds true for the Bosch GLM 20 Laser.  Anyone looking for a single mode of operation that is easy to use and accurate should take a look at the Bosch GLM 20.

  1. Great and detailed review, thanks for it. I also reviewed this laser measure on my website and I think it is a great tool for beginners or if you only need it for interiors in small spaces. It is true that Bosch is one of the top players and probably the one with the most reliable range of products. Leica is also an important player, but I have found that some of its products are not up to the standards you would expect. In any case, a great review of a great product. Thanks for the hard work!
