Stanley Black & Decker Acquires Craftsman Tools from Sears for 900 Million Dollars

Its no surprise to people that buy tools regularly that Sears has been in bad shape for years, and that Sears selling its popular brands was something that was going to happen eventually. Everyone has heard of Kennmore, Craftsman, and Diehard it was just a matter of if and when Sears had to sell those brand names. The surprising thing is SBD aka Stanley Black and Decker bought Craftsman so soon after just acquiring the tool arm of Newell Rubbermaid which included the brands Irwin, Lenox, and Hilmore. The Craftsman purchase is more interesting because they sell tools from so many different OEM’s I wonder how things with end up with SBD at the reigns of the brand now. If you didn’t know the Craftsman C3 line of cordless tools are mostly made by TTI and competitor to SBD, so I wonder what support that lineup of tools will have going forward. Also what will happen to the lifetime warranty on Craftsman tools will they only warranty tools sold while they are owned by SBD? This is an interesting time in the tool industry lots of companies have been sold and bought.  Recently another big purchase was Chervon buying Skill from Bosch.

  1. This has been coming on for years and is a good thing for end users like us that buy and love tools. Craftsmen has been on a downward spiral for quite awhile now and this can’t do anything but help. Can’t wait to see what happens.

  2. Dude… Where do you hear about these things? This is crazy and this just changed the game for the true die hard fans of craftsman.

  3. Hum,
I’m net rested to find out if the winner of the Snowblower will use craftsman tools made by craftsman, or black & Decker to put it together?
