Are you a concrete guy who is looking to put a hurt on some concrete?  If so, the Milwaukee Rotary Hammer might be what you are looking for.  When it comes to concrete, Milwaukee isn’t always the first name you think of.  However they do have some great concrete tools for the contractor.  This time Milwaukee designed another tool for concrete with their new 1″ SDS Plus rotary hammer.  You can buy this tool as a bare tool (2713-20) or a kit which has two batteries and a charger (2713-22).

As you can see by the picture, this is a cordless tool that runs off their M18 battery platform.  Now before you pass on this tool because it’s battery powered, you need to realize a couple of things.  First, battery technology has come a long way over the recent years.  Couple that with the Brushless motor this has and it should outperform some corded tools on the market.  Not too bad for a cordless tool.

The tool features a D-Handle and looks a little like the Bosch Bulldog.  Okay, so it looks like another tool, how does it perform?  The rotary hammer provides 2.1 ft-lbs of impact energy, 0-1,500 rpms and 0-4,400 bpm.  And you thought cordless tools weren’t going to handle the job?  Nonsense, this beast should drill and chip away anything in your way and still have power left over to stir your coffee.

In regards to the depth adjustment, it’s pretty straight forward and easy to adjust.  The only issue I see is you can’t use the depth guide in every position.  If you have the handle on the left side of the tool, you can adjust the depth to any length.  However if you have the handle on the right side, part of the tool blocks the depth guide and you can not use it.

On the base of the handle, there is an LED.  How does the light perform?  It does the job, but not perfect, but where else could you place the light?  The tool has three modes.  Rotary Hammer, Hammer only and rotation only.  If chiseling is in your to do list, you can even set the chisel to any position you want making those awkward moments a thing of the past.  As you know, Milwaukee has one of the best warranties on the market.  This tool comes with a 5 year warranty.
