Milwaukee has had rotary hammers out for a while.  As far as I was concerned, I loved the Rotary hammers, but I still thought Bosch and Hilti owned the market.  Both Bosch and Hilti built quality hammers that were not only tough, but they performed extremely well.  I have to say after trying and using the Milwaukee 2715 M18 Rotary Hammer, I think Milwaukee has a concrete tool that competes with the performance of Bosch and Hilti.

Now, if you have worked with rotary hammers you know a couple things such as they tend to be heavy, have a ton of vibration.  If you are working with a cord, it’s always getting in your way.  However if you are working with a cordless, they don’t either perform well or they don’t last long.  Obviously since this runs off the Milwaukee M18 battery, you no longer have to worry about a cord. So since it runs off a battery, how well does it perform?  I have to say while we didn’t do any chipping, we did plenty of drilling holes.  Now I understand a good bit has a lot to do with the speed and performance.  We ended up using a Hilti bit and I can say this tool drilled hole after hole like nothing.  The tool was fast and didn’t bog down.  I was expecting a lot more vibrations from the tool.  While we did experience some vibration, which is to be expected, they were not even close to what I had imagined.  The vibrations were kept pretty low.  In terms of weight, the Milwaukee 2715 weighs about 7.7 lbs which really isn’t bad.  So let’s talk about the power of this bad boy

Since this is their Fuel hammer, that means inside the tool you can find a brushless motor.  The brushless motor should hold up longer and provide better performance, which it does.  This hammer will put out 3.3 ft-lbs of energy and delivers 0-1,350 RPM and 0-5,000 BPM.  While there are four settings with the dial on top of the tool, it really has three modes, Rotary Hammer, Hammer Only, Rotation Only.  The fourth setting is to adjust the chisel head in the position you want.
