I needed to install a KEVO dead bolt that we were doing a review on. The door did not have an existing dead bolt so I had to drill one.  The easiest way to drill a door is to get a kit like the Milwaukee 49-22-4073 Door Lock Installation Kit.  This kit comes with everything you need except for the lock, a pair of pliers and a chisel.

The heart of the kit is the jig that easily attaches to any door from 1-3/8″ to 1-3/4″ thick.  It offers 2 backset settings 2-3/8″ and 2-3/4″.  The jig auto centers and locks into place with the twist of a knob.  The kit also comes with the hole saws needed to complete the holes. We felt the included Hole Dozer saws could have had a better arbor system. A pair of pliers is needed to change arbors.  You need an adapter to go from the two different sized hole saws.  It also comes with two 1/8″ and two 3/32″ drill bits for the strike plates.

Overall I think the jig is top-notch and it worked well for my project.   The pro will use his own hole saws,  For the DIY type the included saws will get the job done.  At a little over $30, it sure is cheaper than hiring a locksmith.  Check it out via Amazon.
