Today we are going over the NWI Laser Distance Measurement.  This is by no means a review, it’s more of an overview of a device we found a while back.  In fact, Mike Z would be the best to talk about this since he won it.  Now I would like to say sorry to Mike Z because it has taken me longer to ship out and as I sit here and write this overview, the device is sitting next to me getting ready to go into a USPS box.

We first saw NWI at a trade show a while back and at the time it seemed like their stuff was pretty cool.  So when Dan said we had a couple different items to review, I have to say I was intrigued.  Now I haven’t used this much except to take out of the box and talk about it.  I played with it for about a half hour.  Now on Amazon there is one review and that guy didn’t seem to happy, so it’s really hard to tell with just one review.

In regards to use, I do have to say I like this.  It’s very easy to use, plus it has a built in calculator which is very cool for a number of reasons.  As with the other measuring tools we have tested, this one is very easy to take a reading.  Just push the big button on the front and that’s it.  You can measure from 4″ to 195′ at 1/16′ accuracy.  So the range is large and from our measuring, it does seem accurate. You also have the option of mounting this to a tripod.  The unit allows the user to take six different measurements including area, volume and continuous measuring.

Now I know there isn’t much to talk about regarding this overview but I do want to talk about a couple of things.  First, the screen is large and very easy to read.  As I already noted, taking a measurement is easy.  Even the calculator function is very easy to use which can come in quite handy in the field.  I haven’t had this unit out in the field, so I am not sure how well they hold up.  NWI has been around for about 20 years, so that does say something.  You have to be doing something right to be around that long.
