We attended Fabtech recently here in Chicago and came across the Bosch BSH180-01 18V Lithium-Ion Compact Band Saw.  The first thing that caught my eye was its size, this thing is compact.  They had a demo set up, when I tried it I knew I had to have it!  The tool arrived a few weeks later in a nice blow molded case.  One thing that annoys me about blow molded cases is the fact that it sometimes takes 45 min to figure out how to get the tool back in it.  Well I have to say bravo Bosch because the tool fits like a glove in this case.  It even has an area to tuck in the cord for the charger.  It includes 2 2.6AH batteries and the tool accepts both slim and fat Bosch packs.

Our tool weighed it in at just over 8 lbs with a battery and it measured just shy of 14″ long. It has a 2-1/2-in x 2-1/2-in cutting capacity which is great for most electrical, plumbing applications.  The saw easily fits in areas above your head so you can cut pipes in place.  The BSH180-01 comes with 3 blades.  To change the blade you simply remove 2 screws, pull off the guard and release the tensioner .  There is an LED light that easily allows you to see your work, this is especially helpful when working up in the rafters and low light job sites.  The handle is ergonomic and the simple on/off design trigger provides 530 spm.  The entire tool feels rugged thanks to a sturdy aluminum frame.

Using the saw is almost effortless, we cut through everything we could find and it performed flawlessly.  We made quite a few cuts through 3/8″ square tubing, the end result was a clean, precise cut every time.  It cut through steel conduit like it wasn’t even there and was very easy to control.  The tool is professional grade throughout and it is something I would expect from the BMW of tools, Bosch.  Check out Bosch
